Officer courses

Where can I take EMS Officer courses?

Officer courses run at community colleges, agencies and conferences across North Carolina, and some in South Carolina. Our live Course Calendar shows every scheduled class with its date and location.

How do I register for an Officer course?

Same-day, on-site registration applies for most courses unless the calendar notes otherwise. Select a course on the Course Calendar to see the registration details for that location.

Who should take EMS Officer courses?

New, aspiring and experienced EMS officers who want practical leadership and management training built on the North Carolina EMS structure. EMS Officer FTO is designed for field training officers, preceptors and mentors.

In what order do I take the Officer courses?

Take EMS Officer I first. After that, you can take the six Officer II courses (Operations, Training, Safety, Compliance, Logistics and Administration) in any order. Each course is 16 hours. See the Officer Program

Can my agency or college host a course?

Yes. Agencies, colleges, fire departments and public safety organizations can host EMS Wizard courses at their location. Tell us what you need and your preferred timeline.

NC EMS Leadership Academy

Do I need to finish the Officer Program before the Leadership Academy?

No. The NC EMS Officer Program and the NC EMS Leadership Academy are independent programs. Neither is a prerequisite for the other.

How is the Academy structured?

The Academy is delivered in two five-day sessions over six months at a host site in North Carolina. Each cohort is limited to 40 students.

When is the next Academy?

Academy VI at Central Carolina Community College is full. Academy VII is at Pitt Community College in Winterville, NC: Session I is November 3-7, 2027, and Session II is May 24-28, 2028. Reserve your seat

How do I reserve a seat?

Two steps: submit the reservation form on the Leadership Academy page, then pay the $150 Application for Reserve by check or purchase order. To arrange the check or PO, email jwilson@emswizard.com. There's no online payment.

Is the $150 Application for Reserve ever waived?

No. Every participant pays the $150 Application for Reserve. It covers the processing of materials and supplies.

What is the $125 college fee, and who is exempt?

It's a one-time college registration fee for the whole Academy, separate from the $150 reserve. It's waived if you're affiliated with an eligible North Carolina EMS agency or department. The waiver applies only to the $125 college fee, not to the $150 reserve.

Should I choose a CE or CU pathway for my initial EMS education?

It depends on your schedule, budget and whether you want a degree. CE courses can start any time and are usually less expensive; CU courses are semester-based, lead to an associate degree and qualify for federal financial aid. Compare CE and CU

Conferences

Can I earn CE credit at EMS Wizard conferences?

Yes. At EMS at Cherokee, continuing education credit is awarded based on seat time: as a general guideline, 1 hour of approved instructional time equals 0.1 CEU. Final totals depend on the sessions you attend and the check-in and attendance verification process.

Am I exempt from the NC Community College registration fee at a conference?

Attendees affiliated with a North Carolina EMS, fire, law enforcement or 911 agency may qualify for fee-exempt registration through the North Carolina Community College System. Select the "NC Agency Affiliated" ticket. If you're not affiliated, select the "Not NC Agency Affiliated" ticket, which includes the required NC Community College registration fee.

Are conference tickets refundable?

No. Conference tickets are non-refundable, because we use registration numbers to plan venue space, supplies and other event costs. Vendor fees are also non-refundable.
