  • critical care physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology
  • mechanical ventilation and hemodynamic monitoring
  • managing high-acuity medical and trauma patients of all ages, from neonates to adults

The course is built to IBSC guidelines and includes Knowledge Checkpoints, skills sessions and a final exam, so graduates are ready to test for CCP-C or FP-C certification.

Critical Care Refresh

The Critical Care Refresh is the Carter Institute's IBSC-approved Critical Care Transport Review & Refresher. It is a 100-hour, fully online, self-paced course for practicing emergency and critical care clinicians, offered nationwide. It includes all the content and hours required to renew these credentials: NC Paramedic · NRP · FP-C · CCP-C · CP-C

Subject-matter experts with more than 20 years of teaching experience built the course, which takes the content of Critical Care Elite and turns it into a refresher. Custom modules and interactive activities review core emergency and critical care transport principles, sharpen clinical decision-making and cover what's new in the field. It all runs on a modern learning management system, so you choose when, where and how you study. Scholarships may be available for eligible participants.

Who it's for: Current providers only. You should already work in emergency, critical care or transport medicine and need continuing education to renew a certification.

Requirements. You must:

  • hold an active EMS or critical care credential (NC Paramedic, NRP, FP-C, CCP-C, CP-C or equivalent)
  • be practicing now, or have been active recently, in emergency, transport or critical care medicine
  • have the foundational knowledge needed for advanced-level review content
  • complete all online modules and required activities within the course timeframe
  • have reliable internet and a device that can run LMS coursework
